Vibrant communities are vital to the long-term fiscal health of the State of
Michigan. Today, many local units of government across the state are facing
serious financial pressure as a result of declining property values and
operating revenues, as well as escalating costs for providing necessary public
services.
To ensure that Emergency Financial Managers are better prepared to address
financial emergencies, should any be declared, the Department of Treasury
recently teamed with Michigan State University and the Michigan chapter of the
Turnaround Management Association to conduct an Emergency Financial Manager
training program. Approximately sixty individuals attended the training
sessions, held February 9th and 10th, in East Lansing. Additional training is
currently being considered for this spring/summer.
Individuals interested in future sessions should contact Dr. Eric Scorsone at
MSU, by telephone (517-353-9460) or e-mail at
scorsone@msu.edu.
The LUFA process, which was developed and implemented under the previous
administration, will no longer be utilized as a result of the EFM Training
outlined above.
