| Mark Haas - Chief Deputy Treasurer |
State Treasurer Robert Kleine appointed Mark Haas as Chief Deputy Treasurer
in February of 2007. Mark has worked in Michigan State government for over 30
years, serving four Governors. As Chief Deputy, Mark is the Chief Financial
Officer and Chief Operating Officer for the Department of Treasury and oversees all operations within
the Department. The Deputy Treasurers for Taxation,
Investments, Local Government, Student Financial Services, and Bond Finance, the
Bureaus of Administrative Services, and Financial Services
report directly to Mark.
Prior to his appointment as Chief Deputy, Mark served as Chief Operating Officer
for the Bureau of Investments. Prior to that, he directed Treasury's Office of
Revenue and Tax Analysis. Previously, he served as Chief Economist and Director
of Business Research for the Department of Commerce, was Director of Energy
Policy and Research, and Chief Economist for the Department of Labor. Mark
started his career with the State of Michigan in 1978, as staff economist for
the Department of Management and Budget.
Mark holds a B.S. in Business Administration and a M.A. in Economics from
Central Michigan University. He pursued doctoral studies in Economics at
Michigan State University and University of Wisconsin, Madison. Mr. Haas also
completed the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at
Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
