Michigan residents expecting a tax refund can put it to good
use by investing in a child's future. Purchasing a semester or two of college
tuition through the Michigan Education Trust allows you to lock-in tomorrow's
tuition at today's rates, and brings an all-important college education a little
closer for a child or loved one.
"There is no better time to start saving than today," said
State Treasurer Robert J. Kleine. "Higher education is essential to secure the
good-paying jobs of the future. A MET contract is a guaranteed way to protect
against future tuition increases. Using a tax refund to purchase even one
semester of prepaid tuition will help defray future college costs."
Parents, grandparents, and others can purchase a MET contract
for as little as one semester of tuition. MET contracts range from one to eight
semesters (four years) of education and several convenient payment options are
available, including monthly payroll deduction.
MET enrollment runs through August 31, 2008. MET online
enrollment information is available at
www.SETwithMET.com.
Since its debut in 1988 as the nation's first guaranteed
tuition program, MET has sold more than 84,400 contracts and now has assets of
more than $1 billion. Not only are MET contracts portable to Michigan private
and out-of-state colleges and universities, they may be transferred to other
eligible family members. Since 1988, well over 90 percent of high school
graduates with MET contracts have gone on to attend a college or university. For
