SEARCH TIPS
The names of the property owners were given to us
by the bank, employer or other person who was the original custodian of the
property. The name is recorded in our system exactly as they provided it to us.
When you type the name, think of all the ways that name might have been provided
to us and try several. For example: John Q Public, J Public, JQ Public; ABC
Links, Inc, ABC Links Co, etc.
The search works with whole names only. For
example: a search for Public will find John Public, but not John
Publican; a search for the letter J will find J Public, but not John Public.
There is no wildcard capability (i.e., using * or % to look for partial names).
The order of names is not important: a
search for J Public will find both Public J and J Public.
Always try a more general search first. For
example, search for Public before searching for J Public. In this case, if
the first search doesn't find anything, you don't have to do the second.
If a search finds too many matches, they won't be
shown. In this case, try a more specific name. For example, if
a search for Public has 1000 matches, then try J Public.
Lower and upper case are equivalent, both in the
search name and the list of names: a search for J Public will find j
public, J Public, J PUBLIC and J PuBLiC.
Apostrophes and quotes are ignored, both in the
search name and the list of names: a search for Public's Inc will find
both John Public's Inc and John "Publics" Inc.
Other special characters are ignored and act like
spaces, both in the search name and the list of names: a search for
Public-Doe will find Public & Doe, Public Doe and Doe-Public.
