Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO)

The State Tax Commission (STC) offers two options to individuals interested in obtaining MCAO Certification.
 
  1. The State Tax Commission six month Online/Lecture Hybrid MCAO Program.
  2. Self-Study

STC Online/Lecture Hybrid Program:

The online/lecture hybrid program is a six month program covering nine (9) major areas of study.  MCAO Instructors provide daily instruction.  Instructors work with students using online tools and conduct nine classroom instruction sessions held on Saturday's from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Certification is achieved by passing a comprehensive exam at the end of the program that covers the nine major areas of study.

The application window for the January 2018 program is now open.  Applications will be accepted from October 1, 2017 to November 1, 2017.  All applications must be mailed and must be received, not postmarked, by November 1, 2017.

Self-Study Program:

The self-study program provides individuals with MCAO course material covering nine (9) major areas of study.  To participate in the MCAO Self-Study Program, Form 5371, State Tax Commission Application for Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO) Self-Study Program, must be fully completed and submitted to the STC.  Applications may be submitted at any time.

Certification is achieved by passing a comprehensive exam at the end of the program that covers the nine major areas of study.
