1099s Will Be Available Online Beginning February 1, 2012

Beginning February 1, 2012, the state of Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) will make year-end 1099-G statements available online to those who have established a free online web account with the UIA.  The 1099-G statement, Certain Government Payments, provides the total taxable unemployment compensation issued to jobless workers.  Other information detailed on the form includes state and federal income tax deductions, if the individual chose to have the taxes withheld.

In addition, during the week of January 23, 2012, the UIA will begin mailing 1099-G forms to those who drew benefits last year.  Unemployment benefits are taxable, and those who received benefits will need these statements to prepare their 2011 state and federal tax returns.

The UIA makes it easy to create an online account and offers an online video showing unemployed workers how to establish their own personal web account with the agency.
