File an Unemployment Claim Online

Information Highway Image

Michigan unemployed workers may now apply for unemployment benefits online through our Internet Filed Claims service.

Your browser must be set up to allow cookies in order to file your claim for unemployment benefits using this internet application. To find out more about how this site uses cookies and how to enable cookies in most major browsers, click here.

To use the on-line service, applicants must be filing a new or additional claim. An additional claim is one filed to reactivate benefits when a person already has a claim in existence, interrupts the payment of benefits on the claim by returning to work, and then becomes unemployed again.

Applicants filing new claims must meet these criteria:

  • Have been employed by at least one, but not more than 19, Michigan employers during the last 18 months.

  • Did not file an unemployment claim against another state during the past 12 months.

  • Did not work under more than one social security number during the past 18 months.

  • You must file by telephone if you do not know your employer's mailing address.

If you do not meet the above criteria, you may use our telephone service to file a claim. For more information on that service, click here.

Unemployed workers may file an additional claim on line if they have an existing claim with a balance.

Filing an online claim should take about 30 minutes on average, depending on the number of questions and the applicant's Internet connection speed.

The computer being used should be connected to a printer, so, the claim's Confirmation Number, Applicant History, MARVIN Appointment Date and Registration for Work pages can be printed and retained.
