State To Hold Seminars For Employers About Suta Dumping

Seminars set for May 12 in Detroit and May 31 in Lansing

MAY 8, 2006 -- – Michigan’s Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is holding two free seminars this month for employers, explaining to them recent changes in the state’s unemployment insurance (UI) law.

The seminars will describe the latest amendments to the Michigan Employment Security Act, explain how employers can avoid SUTA Dumping when changing their business structures and discuss the negative impact SUTA Dumping has on the state’s UI trust fund.  The seminars will also explain how to complete UIA and employer registration forms.

SUTA (state unemployment tax act) Dumping is a practice that some employers use to avoid paying their fair share of state unemployment taxes by shifting their payroll structure from one organization to another.

The seminars will be held on May 12 in Detroit and May 31 in Lansing.  The Detroit session will be at Cadillac Place, which is located at 3024 West Grand Boulevard.  The Lansing seminar will be at the Government Office Building in the state’s Secondary Complex, 7150 Harris Drive.  Both meetings will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

To register for either seminar, interested employers can fax their registration information to Maureen Strachan at 313.456.2588.  When registering, they should include their name, company name, street address, city, state, zip code, email address, position within the company and the seminar they would like to attend.

UIA held five similar seminars earlier this year at locations around the state and added the two new sessions because of popular demand.
