| What services does the program provide? |
|
The Advocacy Program provides the following services for jobless unemployed workers and employers who disagree with unemployment insurance determinations:
-
Information is given to anyone who requests assistance. This level of service provides fact sheets regarding general procedures about the hearing process as well as the most frequently adjudicated issues. This level is provided by the program administrative staff.
-
Consultation is provided by an Advocate to those customers eligible for assistance under the program requirements. An Advocate will discuss the issues in the case, evaluate the merits of the case and the possible outcome.
-
Representation is provided by the Advocate to an unemployed worker or employer at the Office of Appeals and/or Board of Review hearing. The Advocate obtains facts from the customer, which are favorable to their case and formulates an argument to present at the hearing. Assistance may be limited to information and consultation in those cases determined by the Advocate to be without merit under the Michigan Employment Security (MES) Act
In some cases, service is limited to information and consultation only.
