Late 1017's Mean Penalties

Some things are changing under wage record, but employers must continue to file their Quarterly Wage Detail Reports (form UC 1017).

Instead of requesting wage information from employers each time a person files an unemployment benefits claim, the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) staff, starting Oct. 1, will immediately establish whether a person is eligible for benefits, based on information from employers' 1017s.

Michigan has required employers to submit 1017s since 1986. The law carries a $25 penalty for any employer failing to timely file 1017s. The report must be sent to the UIA by the 25th day of the month following the end of each calendar quarter.
