Welcome to the Online Unemployment Claim System

This application allows you to file for unemployment benefits online. The application will ask a series of questions. Based on your responses, the system may ask you additional questions in order to complete your claim. The process could take up to 45 minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the amount and accuracy of information we may currently have about you in our system.

File an ADDITIONAL Claim IF:
  • You have a Benefit Year in effect with a payment balance,
  • You want your claim to begin with this week.
File a NEW Claim IF:
  • You worked in the past 18 months,
  • You worked only in the State of Michigan during the past 18 months,
  • You did not work under more than one Social Security Number in the past 18 months,
  • You have not filed a claim for unemployment benefits against another state in the past 12 months.
What You Will Need to File a Claim:
To file, you will need to provide identification:
  • Your Social Security Number is required.
  • And your driver's license
    OR
    State ID number
    OR
    Your Personal Identification Number (MARVIN PIN) from a previous claim.
  • If you are NOT a citizen or national of the United States, you will need your Alien Registration Number and the expiration date of your work authorization.
You will also need your work history:
  • The names, addresses, dates of employment, and wages paid by the employers you worked for during the past 18 months.
If you select Direct Deposit for your payments you will need:
  • Your financial institution's Routing Transit Number and your Account Number.
Instructions:
  • This application allows you to file for unemployment benefits online.
  • The application will ask a series of questions. Based on your responses, you may be asked to answer additional questions in order to complete your claim.
  • The process could take up to 45 minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the amount and accuracy of information we may currently have about you in our system.
Answering Questions:
  • You must respond to ALL questions unless instructed. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • A yellow arrow will mark your current position.
  • Help for the current question is displayed on the left side of the screen. Please read the help message before making an entry.
  • Give complete and honest answers. The law provides severe penalties for anyone who intentionally gives incorrect information or hides important information to obtain or increase benefits.
Submitting the Claim Form:
  • When the system informs you that you have completed the application, select the "Proceed" button to submit your claim.
  • If you exit before you select the "Proceed" button, all information you have entered will be lost. Any appointments made or notices of publications being sent by the system will be canceled.
  • After clicking "Proceed", wait for a confirmation page containing your confirmation number. Your application has not been accepted until you see the confirmation page.
  • Print the confirmation page or write down the confirmation number. Your confirmation number is proof that you filed a claim.
Additional Notes:
  • Benefit payment options are Debit Card or Direct Deposit into your checking or savings account. You will be asked to select a method of payment and receive a payment method selection confirmation.
  • Your claim will be effective with the week of filing.
  • Privacy: Federal and state laws require that certain types of information be provided upon request for statistical and Unemployment Insurance program purposes. The information you provide to the Unemployment Insurance Agency concerning your claim for unemployment benefits is confidential and will be used only by public officials performing their duties.
General Information
  • You must register for work if you do not expect to return to work within 120 days from your last day of work. If you are instructed to register for work, the "Notice to Register for Work" page will be provided for you to print and present to the Michigan Works Agency in person, to verify your registration.
  • Benefits cannot be paid unless your resume has been placed on the Michigan Talent Bank (MTB) and it has been verified by the MWA at least two business days BEFORE your first call to MARVIN. Call 1-800-285-WORK(9675) to be connected with the MWA nearest you.
  • The Unemployment Insurance Agency is offering benefit payment options. You will be given these options at the end of the claim process. Your options include Debit Card and Direct Deposit into your checking or savings account.
  • To claim weekly benefits, you must call MARVIN (Michigan's Automated Response Voice Interactive Network) at your assigned time or during the make-up period on Thursday or Friday of that week.
  • Unemployed workers can now complete their biweekly certification through MARVIN Online or by calling the toll-free MARVIN telephone number.
  • If you were disabled within the past 3 years and your claim for benefits is denied for insufficient wages or no wages in the past 18 months, call the toll-free hotline at 1-800-638-3995, regarding the possibility of preserving unused wages.
