Using MARVIN to Inquire About Your Claim

When you have questions concerning your claim, MARVIN will assist you. MARVIN can give you information such as the date of your last payment, the amount of your last payment, the number of weeks already paid, and the number of payments you have left. Call our Inquiry Line at 1-866-500-0017 if you need additional information.

Welcome to Michigan’s Automated Response Voice Interactive Network. You can call me MARVIN! Please listen carefully as our menu options, certification questions and messages have changed. Please be aware your benefit payment may be reduced by the following deductions:
Federal and State income taxes, child support and other court ordered deductions, prior over payment of benefits, vacation pay, holiday pay, severance pay, earnings for work you performed for the week or weeks you are claiming and retirement benefits.

If you disagree with the accuracy of the payment amount, you may protest by requesting in writing a redetermination of the payment amount. Your written protest must be received by the Unemployment Insurance Agency no later than the 30th day after the date the benefit payment was issued. If the 30th day is a Saturday, Sunday, legal holiday or Agency non-work day, then your protest must be received by the end of the next business day.

MARVIN: Here are some tips about MARVIN:

If you cannot certify during your appointment hour because the system was not available, your appointment requirement is automatically waived for the week, and you may call back at any time during normal operating hours the remainder of the week. Sometimes the phone lines are busy at the beginning of the appointment hour. You might try calling a few minutes later during the appointment hour.

The MARVIN system will give the users the following options:

  • To inquire about your claim – Press 2.
  • To complete the Eligibility Review Program - Press 3 (This option is only available on Thursdays and Fridays and to those who have been identified to complete the ERP)
  • To end this call at any time, just hang up.

Claiming Weeks of Unemployment

Welcome to Michigan's telephone certification system. Warning, you must answer all questions truthfully. Giving false information or answering questions for anyone other than yourself, constitutes fraud and is punishable by law. If you are certifying for more than one week, you will be asked the certification questions for each week separately. Messages after the certification has been submitted
One or more of the following statements will be heard after the certification has been submitted.

If payment was released MARVIN will say: Your certification has been accepted for week <date>. Your payment will be issued on the next business day. The expected amount of your payment is <$xxx.xx>.

If an issue was opened from the certification MARVIN will say: Based on your certification additional information is necessary before your payment can be issued. The questions will be mailed to you or you can complete the questions on-line through your MiWAM account on the next business day. MARVIN will then check for additional weeks of certifications. If no additional weeks for certification will go to the MARVIN closing statements. 

If an additional claim is required MARVIN will say: Based on your certification additional information is necessary before your payment can be issued. You need to file an additional claim. You can file your additional claim on-line through your MiWAM account or by calling 1-866-500-0017. Then will go back to the Main Menu if the BYE is not within 4 weeks of the certification date.

If payment could not be released because of a prior pending issue or closed issue- MARVIN will say: Your certification has been accepted for week <date>. There is a pending or closed issue on your claim preventing payment at this time.

If the BYE is ending within 4 weeks of the date on certification MARVIN will say: Your benefit year will end within four weeks from the week you certified for. You will need to file a New Claim the week after your benefit year ending date if you are still unemployed. You can file your new claim on-line through your MiWAM account or by calling 1-866-500-0017.

One of the below messages will be heard after the system checks to see if there are weeks available:

If next certification week is known MARVIN will say: You have no available certifications. Your next scheduled certification will be available during the week beginning Sunday, <date>. Then return to the Main Menu.

If no available weeks for certification MARVIN will say: You have no available certifications. If you are still unemployed, you may file a New claim or Reopen your existing claim. You can file the needed claim on-line through your MiWAM account or by calling 1-866-500-0017. Then return to the Main Menu.

After all of the certifications have been completed

If you would like to know your last payment date and check amount, Press 1.
If you would like to know the balance of weeks payable, Press 2.

ELIGIBILITY REVIEW PROGRAM (ERP)

MARVIN: Hello, you have reached Marvin’s Eligibility Review Program line, also known as ERP. This call is to complete the eligibility review interview. You must also call Marvin on your regular day and time to claim benefits. Warning! Your benefit payments will stop if you do not complete this eligibility review timely. You must answer all questions truthfully. Giving false information or answering questions for anyone other than yourself, constitutes fraud and is punishable by law. You must answer all questions by Pressing “1” for yes, or “9” for no. If you need a question repeated, you may Press “0” at any time.

Note: This only applies to questions. After pressing 0 three consecutive times to repeat a question MARVIN will say: You have exceeded the number of times the question can be repeated.
