Group Funds - An Alternative to Commercial Insurance

Participation in a group self-insurer is an alternative to purchasing an insurance policy from a traditional workers' compensation insurer.  Section 611 of the Workers' Compensation Act provides that two or more employers in the same industry may come together for purposes of pooling their liabilities to meet their obligation to provide workers' compensation coverage to their employees.  Self-insurer groups apply to, and are approved by, the Workers' Compensation Agency.
