Health Care Services Rule Requirement to Reimburse Providers a 3% Late Fee for Payments That Exceed 30 Days

The Bureau has received numerous complaints from health care providers that payers are refusing to reimburse the additional 3% late fee. When bills are paid after 30 days of receipt of a properly submitted claim, a 3% late fee must be included with the payment amount (R 418.101001) (R 418.101016).

The 3% late fee is a mandatory requirement. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in a Bureau compliance hearing against the carrier.

If you have further questions, please contact the Health Care Services Division at 517-322-5433.
