In enacting the OMA, the Legislature promoted a new era in governmental accountability and fostered openness in government to enhance responsible decision making.1 Nothing in the OMA prohibits a public body from adopting an ordinance, resolution, rule, or charter provision that requires a greater degree of openness relative to public body meetings than the standards provided for in the OMA. 2

Medicare is medical care coverage for persons over 65. This should not be confused with the Medicaid program which is medical care coverage for the poor and disabled. Medicaid is administered jointly by the state and federal government. You can call the State of Michigan with Medicaid issues at 800-642-3195. However, the Medicare program is administered solely by the federal government and the State of Michigan has no oversight of that program.
