What should I do if I cannot get an appointment to complete my transaction before the expiration date?

Under Public Acts 127, 128, and 129, the deadline for renewing driver’s licenses and state identification cards (including commercial, chauffeurs, and enhanced), vehicle registrations, permits (temporary instruction, graduated driver, commercial, and motorcycle), certifications (driver and medical), and endorsements (HAZMAT and medical) that expired on or after March 1, 2020 has been extended to Sept. 30, 2020.

If eligible, drivers are encouraged to attempt to renew their credentials online at Michigan.gov/SOS during this time. All standard vehicle registrations may be renewed online, at a self-service station or by mail at any time.

For those that require an in-person branch visit to complete their transaction, we advise that customers attempt to schedule a next-day appointment online at Michgian.gov/SOS. Next-day appointments are offered between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Morning appointments become available the previous day at 8 a.m., while afternoon appointments become available the previous day at noon..
