Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Social Equity All-Star Program recognizes licensees’ social equity efforts with three tiers: bronze, silver, and gold. 

    Bronze: Licensees must publish their social equity plan on the CRA website and attest to the fact that these plans are current in their implementation.

    Silver: Licensees must meet the bronze level requirements and also publish their corporate spend plan on the CRA website and attest to the fact that these plans are current in their implementation.

    Gold: Licensees must meet the silver level requirements and publish their community reinvestment plan on the CRA website and attest to the fact that these plans are current in their implementation.

     
  • The All-Star Program is a voluntary program in which the CRA recognizes its licensees’ social equity efforts with three tiers: bronze, silver, and gold. Each tier represents a particular diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative made by the licensee. Through this recognition, the CRA hopes to highlight effective and innovative social equity efforts that may inspire other licensees to engage further in this important work.

    At this time the program is intended for adult-use licensees only and they are eligible for recognition in the CRA Social Equity All-Star Program by meeting the qualifying criteria regarding social equity plans, corporate spend plans, and community reinvestment plans.   • If you are interested in participating in the Social Equity All-Star Program, please  review the Social Equity All-Star Program Form Instructions and complete the Social Equity All-Star Program form.  The plans corresponding to the tier you wish you apply for will need to be submitted at the same time as the form. Once completed, you can submit the Social Equity All-Star Program form with supporting documentation to the social equity team at CRA-SocialEquity@Michigan.gov.
  • Yes, to amend any of the three plans within the Social Equity All-Star Program, please fill out the Social Equity All-Star Program Amendment Form. Once completed, submit the amendment form with a copy of the updated social equity plan to the social equity team at CRA-SocialEquity@Michigan.gov
  • Yes, if you are interested in continuing your participation in the Social Equity All-Star Program you will have to submit a Social Equity All-Star Program Renewal form on an annual basis. The social equity team will send two courtesy emails 3 months and 1 month prior to renewal. The email will include the expiration date, how to renew your Social Equity All-Star status, how to amend your plan, and information on how to move to a higher tier. 
  • In order to qualify for the Social Equity All-Star Program, the establishment must be fully licensed under adult-use. 
  • No, the diverse supplier does not have to be certified. We have provided a list of diverse suppliers on our website as a resource to business that are looking to be certified and for licensees who would prefer to do business with certified diverse suppliers. In order for the organization to be considered a diverse supplier it would need to be more than 50% owned and operated by an individual or group in one of the following categories: minorities, women, veterans, tribal, LGBTQ, and people with disabilities.
  • No, there is not a specific amount that should be dedicated to a diverse supplier. 
  • A participant will receive a determination within 3-5 business days from submission.  A determination may take longer if the participant fails to submit the required supporting documents with their Social Equity All-Star Program form, or if additional information is needed.
  • Yes, you are able to submit the same social equity plan for the Social Equity All-Star Program. If you are interested in amending your social equity plan, please submit the Social Equity All-Star Program Amendment form to the social equity team at CRA-SocialEquity@Michigan.gov.  
  • There are many ways in you can spend money with diverse suppliers within the cannabis supply chain, including, but not limited to, legal, accounting, real estate, architect, interior designer, security, insurance, marketing, packaging, and printing. Payroll is not considered to be part of a corporate spend plan.
  • No, we do not have a template for submitting your Social Equity All-Star Program plans. If you would like guidance on what to include in your plans, please visit our website by clicking here.
  • No, it is not required that you submit individual forms for each license held. On the Social Equity All-Star Program form you are able to list the license that you would like recognized and any additional licenses that you hold.
  • You can review other licensees’ plans by clicking on the seal for each tier on our website here.   
  • The Social Equity All-Star Program seal is used as an identifier for those who are being recognized by the CRA for their social equity efforts within their community. Each year that you renew your Social Equity All-Star Program status you receive a seal for that year. This seal can be used on your website, social media, in your marijuana establishment, etc.
  • If you are an organization or know an organization that would be interested in being added to the Business Certificate Resource list, you can send an email to the social equity team at CRA-SocialEquity@Michigan.gov.
  • No, we do not have a verification form, but you will receive a letter of acceptance into the Social Equity All-Star program if approved. This letter is verification of that participation year and could be submitted to the municipality.
