(LANSING) The National Retirement Planning Coalition, comprised predominantly of financial education, consumer advocate, and financial services organizations, has declared April 9-13 National Retirement Planning Week. In recognition of the national conversation needed on retirement savings, The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) issued the following statement.

“Planning for retirement is important. With so many financial resources available, this can be overwhelming for Michigan residents. Recognizing this, DIFS developed a retirement planning program called Securing Mi Financial Future. The program is designed to provide access to the best financial tools and information available today,” said DIFS Director Patrick McPharlin. “Developed over a three-year period from 2014 to 2017, Securing Mi Financial Future has received wide-spread acclaim for the straight forward, high-impact information and resources it offers.”

The National Retirement Planning Coalition, spearheaded by the Insured Retirement Institute, recognizes the need to educate Americans on retirement planning and is committed to making this a national priority. National Retirement Planning Week® and other Coalition activities demonstrate that it is possible to “Retire On Your Terms.” To support these education efforts, the coalition has collected the latest resources to help consumers and financial professionals focus on long-term financial goals. These tools are available year-round at and on the DIFS website at
