Bob Burns

Chief Advisor to the Director

Bob Burns serves as Chief Advisor to the Director and has responsibility for the supervision of the Office of Financial and Administrative Services and the Office of Communications. In this role, he leads internal administrative functions, such as IT, human resources and department finance, as well as, internal and external communications and the department's outreach activities.

Mr. Burns has worked in state government since 2001 with leadership positions in two state Departments and in the legislature. Mr. Burns directed legislation and constituent services for a State Representative's office and served in a staff position at the Michigan State Senate. Mr. Burns also served as the Director of Government Affairs for the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), during the Granholm Administration. Immediately prior to coming to DIFS, Mr. Burns was Director of the DTMB Real Estate Division, which executes a significant portion of the state's real estate transactions.

Before coming to state government, Burns worked in a family business in remodeling and residential development. Mr. Burns received his B.S. from Eastern Michigan University.
