Winter trail lit by lanterns

This event has been canceled.

Enjoy an evening in the snow with this lantern-lit snowshoe trail. The trail is illuminated with over 70 kerosene lanterns and loops through the beautiful winter forest. We will be hosting this event every Saturday in February! The trail begins and ends near the upper falls trailhead located at the end of the upper falls parking area. There will be limited snowshoes available to borrow, including children's snowshoes. You may still want to bring a flashlight or headlamp. Snowshoes or skis are required to participate (winter boots poke holes in the packed trail). Face coverings are required when social distancing is difficult. The event will only be canceled in extreme weather (windchill-10F or below). Check our Facebook page for event updates.

To ensure we are meeting the requirements outlined in the MDHHS gathering orders, pre-registration is required this year and will become available January 15. (Check back here for the link at that time).

Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks. To make a camping reservation, visit or call 1-800-447-2757.

Please Note: Dates occasionally change and events may be canceled due to inclement weather and other reasons. Please call the park to confirm dates/times prior to your arrival.
