Where can it be purchased for Michigan-registered vehicles?

Secretary of State
Recreation Passports can be purchased at the Secretary of State at the time of the annual license plate renewal at the Secretary of State. Purchases can be made by mail, at a self-service SOS station, in person at a SOS branch office or online at expressSOS.com. If the passport is purchased outside the annual license plate renewal cycle at the SOS, an additional $5 convenience fee will apply.
 

State parks, DNR customer service centers and other designated areas 
A Recreation Passport may be added to an existing Michigan-registered vehicle by purchasing it at a state park, DNR customer service or other Recreation Passport designated area. An additional $5 convenience fee will apply $16 ($11 passport fee, plus $5 convenience fee).

Please note: A Recreation Passport for a Michigan-registered vehicle can not be purchased online.

How much does it cost?

Michigan-registered vehicles:

  • $11 when purchased at the time of annual license plate renewal via the Secretary of State
  • $16 when purchased at Michigan state parks, DNR customer service centers and other designated area ($11 Recreation Passport fee. plus $5 convenience fee)

Michigan-registered motorcycles:

  • $6 when purchased at the time of annual license plate renewal via the Secretary of State
  • $11 when purchased at Michigan state parks, DNR customer service centers and other designated area ($6 Recreation Passport fee, plus $5 convenience fee)

Other

  • $7 - Towed vehicle permit (good for length of stay) 
  • $17 - Commercial daily pass (24k+ lbs and/or seating capacity of 16+)
