Planning and Management of State Parks, Recreation Areas and Boating Access Sites
- DNR Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan 2017-2022: Connections
The DNR Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan 2017-2022: Connections is the overarching document that will guide the DNR Parks and Recreation Division in carrying out its mission to “acquire, protect and preserve the natural and cultural features of Michigan’s unique resources, and to provide access to land- and water-based recreation and educational opportunities” over the upcoming five-year period. The plan defines where resources should be focused for maximum benefit to carry the state park and recreation system beyond its centennial milestone in 2019. The plan was developed with input from the public, stakeholders, advisory groups and DNR staff.
- Park Management Plans
A park's general management plan defines a long-range (10- to 20-year) planning and management strategy that assists the DNR Parks and Recreation Division in meeting its responsibilities to protect and preserve the site’s natural and cultural resources and provide access to land- and water-based public recreation and educational opportunities. The plans are developed with input from various specialists within the DNR as well as public feedback.
- Green Initiatives
State parks, recreation areas and state harbors have gone green with a series of initiatives to promote environmentally-friendly management practices and products.
