Many reserved public-land deer hunts are restricted to individuals with disabilities, or to those who meet other eligibility criteria as defined by the local land manager. Do not apply for a reserved deer hunt access permit until you have determined if the hunt has special eligibility requirements.
A limited number of reserved deer hunts are available on selected state and federal public lands. Hunters may apply for a reserved deer hunt access permit from July 15 – August 15, and will be selected by a random drawing.
A reserved deer hunt access permit authorizes the permit holder to hunt deer at a specific location on specific date(s). The access permit is not a deer kill tag; hunters must possess appropriate deer license(s) to harvest deer in accordance with statewide deer hunting regulations, and any local hunting rules and restrictions established by the local land manager. An optional Managed Deer Hunt permit (“bonus” kill tag for an antlerless deer) may be available for some reserved hunts. Cost is $20 each; see area information sheet for details.
A hunt information sheet is provided below for each public-land area offering deer reserved hunts. Read these information sheets carefully before applying for an access permit. Hunt choice descriptions that begin with an asterisk (*) are reserved for participants who meet specific eligibility criteria. Do not apply for a * hunt unless you are eligible.
Reserved deer hunts at Shiawassee River State Game Area (SRSGA) are open to any licensed deer hunter. Harvest may be restricted to antlerless-only deer for some hunts.
Some reserved hunts at Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge (SNWR) are non-ambulatory hunts only, restricted to hunters with a permanent disability which requires use of a personal assistive mobility device (such as a wheelchair). See information sheet, above, for hunt options and eligibility requirements.
Hunters may optionally purchase up to two Managed Deer Hunt (MDH) permits (“bonus” antlerless-only kill tags) for “DMU 273 State Game Area” or “DMU 273 Federal Refuge." MDH permits are $20 each and are valid only during the hunter’s reserved hunt period at SRSGA or SNWR.
