Fennville Farm Unit 2020 Draw Procedures

The Fennville Farm Unit will operate under the Department of Natural Resources approved plan for operating managed hunts by means of in-person draws (2 days per week) and self-registration hunts (4 days per week).

ALL WATERFOWL HUNTING ON THE FENNVILLE FARM UNIT MANAGED AREA IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS.

Saturdays will have one AM draw at 5:30am and Sundays will have one PM draw at 11:00am. During the GMU goose season, hunters may self-register for WALK-IN ONLY hunting Tuesday - Friday.

Duck hunting will be open to self-registration Tuesday through Sunday before the goose season starts.

Specific operations are designed to align with the DNR Wildlife Division SARS-CoV-2 Preparedness and Response Plan for Lower Exposure Risk Employees (Rev. 09/22 2020).

Managed hunting operations at the Fennville Farm Unit will take place by means of a drive-through to pick up a registration card, and a walk-up to an overhead door for zone selection at the at the Fennville Farm Unit Field Office (6013 118th Ave., Fennville, MI, 49408).

Hunters should expect plexiglass barriers between themselves and staff. Only the hunting party leader will be expected to approach the overhead door location to pick a zone. Anyone approaching the registration area is expected to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.

The drawing information will be announced by means of a PA system. During the draw, party leaders will be expected to social distance. After the draw, party leaders will be called to the registration location one at a time based on the drawing results. All other hunters must stay in their vehicles. If any hunters exit their vehicles, they must abide by the Executive Orders relating to social distancing and face coverings.

On Saturday draws, hunting permits will be valid for the entire day from opening of shooting hours to the close of shooting hours. The 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM quiet hour will not be observed.

On Sundays, hunters may enter the area after the draw and begin hunting immediately. Hunting will continue from immediately after the draw to the end of legal shooting hours.

DNR staff will not be checking or selling licenses at the check station.

Special Hunts

The Youth priority hunt scheduled for November 7th (Saturday) will proceed as a 5:30 AM draw. The Youth priority hunt scheduled for Dec. 5th (Saturday) will proceed as an 11:00 AM draw.

The Veterans preference draw scheduled for November 10, will be canceled at the Fennville Farm Unit.

Other Hunt Rules 

  • Switching zones or adding hunters to a party after the draw will not be permitted.
  • Zones will not be reissued, and leftover zones will not be issued after the draw.
  • There are no absentee limits for the 2020 season, but the maximum party size is 6 hunters per hunting party.
  • Hunters or organizations are not allowed to sell items or sponsor food item giveaways in the Fennville Farm Unit parking lot.
  • There will be no Wetland wonder Challenge for the 2020 season.
  • Hunters are still required to fill out and return their permits with harvest information to a drop box (located in the front door of the Fennville Farm Unit office).
  • Restroom facilities previously open to hunters will be closed for the duration of the season.

FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THE DIRECTIONS LISTED HERE OR PROTOCOLS LISTED AT THE CHECK STATION OR INFORMATION PROVIDED BY STAFF WILL RESULT IN FORFEITURE OF YOUR DRAW AND HUNTING PRIVILEGE.
