Seasonal positions in the Wildlife Division

Looking for a summer or fall job within Michigan's great outdoors?

  • The Wildlife Division hires more than 100 seasonal employees to work during the summer and fall seasons to work at the State Field Offices, DNR Customer Service Centers, and the State Game Areas. These positions are perfect for college students, those looking to re-enter the workforce and seniors or retirees looking to be involved in the outdoors. Job responsibilities may include: Assist with the development, maintenance, and improvement of wildlife habitat on Wildlife areas and other State private or Federal lands. These jobs are accomplished through intensive farming practices and by means of cuttings and clearings, water level manipulation in impoundments, and use of light equipment.  Mowing, landscaping and janitorial duties. Assist as needed with other management unit responsibilities, including wildlife surveys, nuisance animal control, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with collection of deer heads for the Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance throughout the region, and delivery of those heads down to the MSU Wildlife Disease Lab as well as the collection of biological data. Interact with hunters at DNR deer check stations to collect data, share information, and assist with questions and concerns.

"Well Katie, it was kind of difficult, but my story is very similar to a lot of the staff in the Wildlife Division. That is where we started out - volunteer positions, limited term positions, seasonal positions before I was able to land a full-time job with the Wildlife Division. That is the theme. If people are listening out there and they'd like to work for the DNR at some point, everybody puts in their time in these temporary positions."
Bruce Barlow, Wildlife Biologist, Wildtalk Podcast Episode 9.
