The boating access site at Rockport Recreation Area in Presque Isle County, Michigan, has temporarily closed due to navigation barriers caused by high water and wave action in Lake Huron.
Boats aren't able to safely get in or out of the outlet because rocks and other debris are continually being pushed into the area adjacent to the inlet.
Department of Natural Resources parks and recreation staff is working to address the recurring problem. The DNR anticipates that the boating access site will remain closed through spring 2020 when a solution is identified and can be implemented.
The DNR encourages boaters to use one of two alternative boating access sites that also provide boating access to Lake Huron:
Anyone planning to visit the boating access site at Rockport State Recreation Area is encouraged to first visit Michigan.gov/DNRClosures for any changes in the anticipated reopening date. Additional information on closures and trail detours in DNR facilities including state trails, boat launches, parks and campgrounds, also are listed on this page.
