Snowmobile Trail Closures
- A section of UP457 and UP43 (Delta County) closed and rerouted
A section of Trails UP457 and UP43, both located in Mackinac County in the Upper Peninsula, are temporarily closed due to a logging operation on private land. A reroute (PDF) is available. (updated 2/15/19)
- A section of Trail UP2 in Delta County closed and rerouted
A section of Trail UP2, located between Garden Corners and 28th Road/USFS Road 2231 in Delta County, has been closed and rerouted. (updated 2/9/19)
- Flooding causes closure on Snowmobile Trail No. 6 in Manistee County
Ice damming has caused the Pine River to flood in the area of Low Bridge (south of M-55 and west of M-37 in Norman Township) on Snowmobile Trail No. 6. It's predicted that temperatures will rise, causing additional snow melt and rising water levels. The trail will be closed until the flooding has subsided. (updated 2/1/19)
- Snowmobile Trail closure in Sanilac and Huron counties
Private land along the 90-mile segment of Snowmobile Trails No. 20, 21 and 22 in the Lower Peninsula is currently being marked and brushed for winter use. There were several areas where crops were still standing until late December. Once the trail is marked and cleared and private land use is secured, the trail will be opened to the public pending adequate snow. Please check back to this webpage for periodic updates. - Trail updates for the Keweenaw Peninsula
Severe damage occurred over Houghton County trails in June 2018 when major storms struck Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in both June and July 2018. The DNR and partnering agencies have worked to reopen several trail segments, though some trail closures remain in effect. (updated 1/29/19)
- Intermittent forest road closures in the area of Snowmobile Trail No. 47 in Crawford County
There are several military training sessions planned near Snowmobile Trail No. 47 in Crawford County in the area west of Bald Hill Road to Stephan Bridge. As a result, some intermittent forest road closures will take place. Please respect the closed gates. (updated 12/10/18)
- Snowmobile Trail No. 7 in Otsego County opened for snowmobiling season
An 11-mile trail segment along Snowmobile Trail No. 7 in Otsego County has re-opened for the 2019 snowmobile season. A final construction phase will take place in the spring that will improve the surface for non-motorized users. (updated 12/14/18)
- Snowmobile Trail No. 76 / Indian River ORV Route opened (Cheboygan County)
A segment of Snowmobile Trail No. 76 / Indian River ORV Route between Wildwood and Reams roads in Cheboygan County has re-opened. DNR staff stabilized the washout areas for snowmobile season and will return in the spring for some final work to the trail. (updated 12/14/18)
Boating Access Closures
- Harlow Lake fishing pier at Presque Isle temporarily closed (Marquette County)
The Harlow Lake fishing pier at Little Presque Isle, north of Marquette, was damaged severely when recent weather changes produced fluctuating water levels. The fishing pier will remain closed until it can be repaired. (updated 12/11/18)
- Beaufort boating access site (Baraga County) closed for season
The Beaufort boating access site is completely under water due to unusual rain this fall. It will be closed through the end of the season and will re-open again in spring 2019. (updated 10/15/18)
Campground and Park Closures
- Muskallonge Lake State Park's campground (sections 1 and 3) temporarily closed for electrical updates
The campground (sections 1 and 3) at Muskallonge Lake State Park will temporarily close due to electrical updates and site improvements. The two sections are slated to re-open in mid-July 2019. (updated 12/12/18)
- Fort Custer State Park's campground (west loop) temporarily closed for season
The west loop (sites 1-110) of Fort Custer State Park's campground will temporarily close this winter to reduce snowplowing and other maintenance costs. The closed sites will reopen April 1, assuming the snow has mostly melted. (updated 12/12/18)
- Hoeft State Park modern campground temporarily closed
The modern campground, modern lodge and sanitation station at P.H. Hoeft State Park are closed for the remainder of the season effective Oct. 8. The day-use area and trails are open; however, trails leading into the campground are closed for visitor safety. The park will re-open in late spring. (updated 10/16/18)
- Lakeport State Park's South Campground to temporarily close for site improvements
Lakeport State Park's South Campground (sites 301-356, White Pine and Cedar cabins) will temporarily close for the replacement of the restroom building. The project will begin at the start of the 2019 season and is slated to re-open in mid-fall 2019. (updated 10/16/18)
- Beaufort State Forest Campground (Baraga County) closed for season
Beaufort State Forest Campground (Baraga County) is completely under water and will be closed through the end of the season. It will re-open in spring 2019. (updated 10/12/18)
- Rainfall forces early campground closures at Baraga, Porcupine Mountains state parks
Significant rainfall over several days has forced the early closure of campgrounds at Baraga State Park in Baraga County and the Union Bay campground at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Ontonagon County. The modern campgrounds at both parks are closed for the remainder of the season. (updated 10/11/18)
- Bruin Lake Campground (Pinckney Recreation Area) to close handful of campsites for site improvements July 8-Dec. 1
Beginning July 8, a handful of campsites will close at the Bruin Lake Campground in the Pinckney Recreation Area so that site improvements can take place. This phase of improvements includes the replacement of the toilet building at the south end of the campground and the addition of a new campsites where the old building now stands. Construction is slated to take place through Dec. 1. (updated 7/6/18)

There are closures to the MCCCT in both Charlevoix and Oscoda counties due to recent weather conditions. (updated 9/24/18)
- Sections of Norway ORV Trail closed for construction in Dickinson County
Sections of the Norway Off-Road Vehicle Trail and forest road known as the “Cassidy Creek Truck Trail” will be temporarily closed this fall for trail improvements. Construction is scheduled in two phases, and it is anticipated that all work should be completed by spring or early summer 2019. (updated 9/7/18)
- Evart Cycle Trail closed for cleanup of debris
The Evart Cycle Trail in the Northern Lower Peninsula has been closed temporarily due to storm damage. It is unknown when the trail will re-open. (updated 9/4/18)
- Use caution on Lake County trails; damage caused from Aug. 28-29 storms
Several trails in Lake County and throughout the Northern Lower Peninsula were adversely affected by a storm that hit the area Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 28-29. As a result, motorized and nonmotorized trail users likely will encounter downed trees and branches on the trails and should use caution on any open trail. (updated 8/30/18)
- Lake Okonoka restoration efforts under way at Belle Isle; temporary closures to take place through spring 2019
Work near the Nashua Trail canal crossing near Woodside Drive has been completed; however, temporary detours for Woodside Drive and The Strand in the vicinity of Lake Okonoka are expected to continue through spring 2019. (updated 10/16/18)
Other Closures
- DNR announces bridge closure in Alger County
A bridge over Werner’s Creek, southwest of Trenary, has been deemed unsafe for vehicle traffic of any kind. The bridge is located about a mile north of the Alger-Delta county line, along Deadhorse Creek Road, roughly 4 miles west of U.S. Highway 41. (updated 11/13/18)
- Copper Harbor Lighthouse tours unavailable
The boat tour from Copper Harbor State Marina to the Copper Harbor Lighthouse is closed due to the absence of a contractor. The Copper Harbor lighthouse is located on state park land; however, the area between Fort Wilkins Historic State Park and the lighthouse is situated on private land and passage between the two is NOT allowed. Other Updates
- Reedsburg dam in Missaukee County set to undergo significant maintenance upgrades; preparation starts this summer
The Reedsburg dam is undergoing significant maintenance upgrades through early June 2019. As a result, the water will remain low throughout the winter with all the boards still removed from the dam. Construction activities will resume as soon as the spring weather allows. Once constrution is completed, the DNR will begin to slowly raise the water level. It is expected to take all summer and fall to get the flooding back to full pool. (updated 12/19/18)
- DTE Energy Foundation Trail parking lot intermittently will close to minimize activity when erosive trail conditions exist
