Know before you go
- Camping, Parks & Recreation Areas
- The majority of park amenities are open; however, drinking fountains and park headquarter buildings remain closed until further notice.
COVID-19 HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS FOR STATE PARKS AND CAMPGROUNDS:
- The MDHHS Gatherings and Face Mask Order requires everyone to wear a face covering when two or more persons are present in indoor public spaces, including restrooms/shower buildings, contact stations and visitor centers.
- Outdoors - on trails or at campsites - stay at least 6 feet from people who aren't from your household and wear a mask if you're going to be near others.
- Staff will clean restrooms/shower buildings several times a day. At least once per day, these buildings will be cleaned and sanitized in accordance with Centers for Disease Control guidelines.
- DNR staff wear face coverings when indoors and outdoors within 6 feet of others; however, you may see some employees without masks when they are handling more solitary duties that are situated farther away from visitors. This could include things like mowing grass or driving alone in a vehicle.
- Overnight lodging facilities, including cabins, lodges and yurts, will be cleaned and sanitized according to CDC guidelines after each reservation holder checks out.
- If possible, please pay by debit or credit card to decrease the exchange of money and face-to-face contact.
- We encourage you to bring your own gloves and disinfectant and whatever else you deem necessary to protect yourself while in campgrounds and parks.
- Please bring your own hand sanitizer (containing at least 60% alcohol).
- Hard surfaces, such as playground equipment, handrails and picnic tables, will not be sanitized between each use. You may use your own sanitation wipes.
- Camper check-in procedures may vary by location.
- Be sure to heck for other (non COVID-related) closures at Michigan.gov/DNRClosures.
- Fishing
- Fishing has always been allowed.
- Charter and fishing guide operations may operate with restrictions.
- Shooting Ranges
DNR-staffed ranges
Most shooting ranges are open, however some seasonal closures are currently in place. Please visit our closures page for up-to-date information.
COVID-19 safety policies for DNR shooting ranges:
- While at DNR shooting ranges, all customers and employees are asked to maintain a social distance of 6 feet between them and anyone that is not an immediate member of their family. Please note that this includes the parking lot and the ranges.
- The rifle and pistol range will be limited to 50% capacity. Range personnel will require an unoccupied bench between each occupied bench.
- The ranges will be marked so customers can clearly identify proper distances.
- Hand sanitizer will be available for customer and employee use on the rifle, pistol and shotgun trap ranges.
- Sanitizing solution will be made available to customers for use on shooting stations, chairs, brooms and other touch points.
- Customers and employees are asked to wear a face covering while inside a building.
- Sandbags, spotting scopes, carpet squares, eye and ear protection will no longer be provided due to the difficulty in keeping those items sanitized. These items will be up to the shooter to provide for themselves.
- Shooters are encouraged to bring their own gloves, hand sanitizer, disinfectant and whatever else they deem necessary to protect themselves.
- Shooters are reminded that they are participating in an outdoor activity and they participate at their own risk due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
