Learn to grade lumber in new Kirtland Community College classes

Want to learn the techniques involved in lumber grading, a rating system that considers the size and number of defect-free pieces that a piece of wood offers?
The National Hardwood Lumber Association is offering two classes through Kirtland Community College in Grayling:
- Lumber Grading I, the basic course, runs noon-3 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays Feb. 1 through March 3. Class number is WST 10300.
- Lumber Grading II runs noon-3 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays March 9 through May 4. Students in this class will take an assessment at the end of the course to receive a certificate of completion from the National Hardwood Lumber Association. Class number is WST 10400.
Cost for either class is $1,636 for in-district students; $1,884 for out-of-district students. Financial assistance may be available.
