Girl Scout Conservation Stewardship Award requirements
The Department of Natural Resources has shared a long history of conservation stewardship with scouting organizations. Scouts have participated and completed a number of service projects or eagle projects on lands managed by the department. In honor of this commitment to conservation stewardship, and in recognition of the service provided, the DNR - in partnership with the Michigan Boy Scout and Girl Scout councils - has initiated a Conservation Stewardship Award that scouts can earn.
Depending on the scouting level and program, both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can earn awards, badges, pins, try-its, etc. while helping conserve Michigan's natural resources by participating in stewardship activities on state lands. The scouting levels and requirements to earn a stewardship patch or medal and pins are listed below.

Requirements are as follows:
Brownie
- Earn one of the following:
- Bugs
- Household Elf
- Participate in two hours of stewardship activity with the Department of Natural Resources.
Junior
- Earn one of the following:
- Flowers (with an emphasis on local wildflowers)
- Animal Habitats
- Participate in two hours of stewardship activity with the Department of Natural Resources.
Cadette
- Earn one of the following:
- Trees
- Breathe "It's Your Planet-Love it"
- Participate in four hours of stewardship activity with the Department of Natural Resources.
Senior
- Design a program:
Pick a subject such as fish and wildlife management, forestry, endangered species or invasive species. Find out which types of management take place and how that management occurs. Plan a visit to a site where management activities take place for your subject. Learn how you can add your input into natural resources management. Find out about careers in the field you have selected. - Participate in four hours of stewardship activity with the Department of Natural Resources.
Ambassador
- Earn one of the following:
- Public Policy Badge: select an environmental or natural resource issue important to Michigan.
- Water Badge: learn about Great Lakes water issues.
- Participate in four hours of stewardship activity with the Department of Natural Resources.
