Trees help communities thrive

The Urban and Community Forestry Program brings the benefits of trees to Michigan communities through planning and partnership. We assist with forest management activities, community policy development and education. The program is funded through the USDA Forest Service and is advised by a volunteer council that promotes conservation and maintenance of urban forests.

Arbor Day

Arbor Day: A celebration of trees!

Arbor Day celebrates trees and their importance in our lives; it is also a time to think about what we can do for trees and the earth. Celebrate Arbor Day every year on the last Friday in April.

Arbor Day 2023 will be Friday, April 28.

Healthy natural resources are vital for vibrant communities. Trees in our backyards, neighborhoods, cities, farms and forests connect us to our past and to our future.

To get involved or plan your own celebration of trees, visit the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance. For more information, contact the Michigan DNR Urban and Community Forestry Program at or by calling 517-582-3209.
