The DNR will be accepting applications during spring 2024 for a Conservation Officer Training Academy that will begin in January 2025. Please check back for additional details.

Michigan DNR conservation officers protect Michigan’s natural resources, the environment, and the health and safety of the public through effective law enforcement and education.

COs patrol and enforce laws and regulations specific to the jurisdiction of the DNR, including:

  • Fish and wildlife.
  • State parks.
  • Trails.
  • State forests.
  • Recreational activities such as off-road vehicle riding, snowmobiling and boating.

As fully licensed law enforcement officers through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, COs respond to general criminal situations and are first responders to a variety of natural disasters and emergencies who often work with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
