There are regulations in place that limit the transportation of deer carcasses throughout the Lower Peninsula. Carcasses from areas with CWD should never be disposed of on the landscape in CWD areas. There are no carcass transportation regulations for the Upper Peninsula.
A deer harvested in Montcalm County in its entirety, Otisco, Orleans, Ronald or North Plains townships in Ionia County, or Nelson, Spencer, Courtland, Oakfield, Grattan or Cannon townships in Kent County cannot be possessed or transported outside of those listed areas, unless:

In 2022, disease monitoring will be occurring mainly in the southern half of the Lower Peninsula. We need deer heads from the following counties in the Lower Peninsula:
We also need deer heads from the core CWD area in the Upper Peninsula which includes portions of the following counties:
We have staffed sample submission sites in addition to unstaffed drop boxes in locations across the state. Please see disease sample submission sites as a list or use our interactive map to find a location.
Please be aware that test results may take 6-8 weeks to receive. If CWD is found in a submitted deer from an area above, the hunter will also be notified by letter or phone and will be eligible for a replacement antlerless deer license. Additionally, all results are posted at Michigan.gov/DNRLab.
Free lymph node shipping kits that include free CWD testing are available from the following counties:
Results from deer submitted using the free kits will be sent directly to the hunter from the Michigan State University Diagnostic Laboratory.
Deer harvested in all other counties in Michigan can be submitted through one of the following participating USDA-approved laboratories for a fee.
Results from deer submitted to an approved USDA laboratory using testing for a fee will be sent directly to the hunter from the laboratory.
Successful hunters can bring their buck or doe to participating taxidermists to have the jaw and lymph nodes removed. This accomplishes CWD testing goals while maintaining the "trophy" portion of the animal that would otherwise be incinerated after being tested at the Wildlife Disease Laboratory.
