Walleye Fishing on Lake Erie
Walleye Fishing on Lake Erie
Come walleye fishing on Lake Erie where the walleye season is open year-round!
Lake Erie offers outstanding walleye fishing, drawing anglers here all summer long.
Most boats on Lake Erie troll for walleye during the spring/summer. Although most anglers troll, what and how they troll can vary.
- One of the most common combinations is a crawler harness. These are typically fished off of a bottom bouncer or in-line weight, which are used to get the harness to the desired depth.
- Other anglers have a personal preference for spoons, which are usually fished off of some type of diving disk like a mini dipsy diver. Again, the purpose of a diver is to get the lure to the desired depth.
- Another option is using crankbaits like Rapala Husky Jerks, Bandits or Reef runners. Weights or divers are not required when using crankbaits because they are designed to dive.
Whichever trolling technique you decide to use, most anglers use in-line planer boards. These boards are connected to your line and plane away from the boat – serving two purposes. First, it gets your lure away from the boat for times when the fish are finicky or skittish, and second, they allow you to spread out your lines to avoid tangles.
Color selection of your lure can vary, but favorites for Lake Erie walleye are purple and pinks.
