Mears State Park - Spring Volunteer Day
Mears State Park - Spring Volunteer Day
Volunteer Day is a long standing tradition at the park that occurs twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Spring volunteer day consists of volunteers helping put out tables, benches and grills, clean campsites, paint park fixtures and other activities necessary to get the park ready for use. The day begins as volunteers gather at the park headquarters to hear about the projects needing attention and to divide into groups to complete the tasks. Volunteers are encouraged to pick a job that they enjoy and may have special talent for. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The event is open to the public but campers who complete a full day of volunteering earn a free camp night (must be used this weekend). Please remember to dress for the weather. Often times we will work during mist and sprinkles but during a true rain out we continue activities the next day. Meet at the Park Headquarters at 9 a.m.
While reservations are not necessary as the park is not at risk to fill during the time period, we know some campers who really want their favorite site. If you're one of these volunteers, you may make reservation and a refund will be processed at the time of check-in if volunteering.
A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks. To make a camping reservation, visit MIDNRReservations.com or call 1-800-447-2757.
Please Note: Dates occasionally change and events may be canceled due to inclement weather and other reasons. Please call the park to confirm dates/times prior to your arrival.
