Each year the Pentwater Chamber of Commerce hosts an Independence Day fireworks display on July 3rd. The fireworks begin at dusk. The state park beach is the closest place for viewers to enjoy the display. They are launched from the pier directly adjacent to the park beach.

The beach parking lot at Mears State Park generally fills with people coming to see the fireworks around 8 p.m. Once the parking lot is full at or after 8 p.m. Lowell St. is shut down by local police to ensure the safety of people walking or riding bikes to the park to enjoy the fireworks. At the conclusion of the fireworks Lowell St. remains closed until a majority of pedestrians have cleared. If you park in the parking lot please be prepared to wait an extra 20 - 40 minutes after the fireworks end before you will be able to leave the park. For more information, please call the park or Pentwater Chamber of Commerce at 231-869-4150.

A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks. To make a camping reservation, visit MIDNRReservations.com or call 1-800-447-2757.

Please Note: Dates occasionally change and events may be canceled due to inclement weather and other reasons. Please call the park to confirm dates/times prior to your arrival.
