Mears State Park - Fall Volunteer Day
Fall Volunteer Day generally occurs on the first Saturday of October. The tradition of Fall Volunteer day sees volunteers performing tasks like snow fence set up, take down of benches, grills and tables throughout the park. Many other activities occur from table painting to litter pick up and fire pit cleaning. Volunteer day is a great opportunity for people make new friends catch up with old friends and to give back to a park that people enjoy as much as possible during the summer months.
Volunteers who work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be allowed to camp for free for the weekend. Camping is not a requirement to volunteer, all are welcome. Minors will need to be accompanied by a guardian as the signing of a liability waiver is a condition of participation. People should dress in clothing appropriate for the weather. Often times we will work during mist and sprinkles but during a true rain out we continue activities the next day.
Reservations are encouraged for camping that weekend, the last two years our October weekend attendance has increased, and a refund will be processed at the time of check in.
A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks. To make a camping reservation, visit MIDNRReservations.com or call 1-800-447-2757.
Please Note: Dates occasionally change and events may be canceled due to inclement weather and other reasons. Please call the park to confirm dates/times prior to your arrival.
