Barry State Game Area expansion

2024-07-15T18:00:00Z 2024-07-15T20:00:00Z Barry State Game Area expansion

The Barry State Game Area is expanding, thanks to our conservation partners, the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy. Earlier this spring, the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy purchased the former 200-acre Boys and Girls Club of Kalamazoo camp and will be donating the property to the DNR Wildlife Division to ensure its conservation for generations to come.

The Boys and Girls Club camp property has long been recognized as one of the most important parcels to protect in the Glass Creek watershed due to the extent and quality of the surrounding 70-acre wetland complex, as well as its significant frontage on Podunk Creek and Glass Creek, one of the few trout streams in southern Lower Michigan.

The conservation of this property was critical, and we invite you to join us in celebrating the new Barry State Game Area addition and the partnerships that made it happen on Monday, July 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the former Boys & Girls Club camp. Brief remarks will be followed by guided walks on the property.

Parking at the Boys and Girls Club Camp is limited to 20 cars. Please consider carpooling, if possible. RSVP by July 12 to Rachel Lincoln at LincolnR3@Michigan.gov.
