Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has proclaimed Saturday, June 30, 2018, Michigan Social Media Day, to recognize social media’s ever evolving impact on communications.
“Social media has far reaching influence across all industries, including government, business and education,” said Andrew Belanger, state of Michigan statewide digital content administrator. “On social media day we celebrate the use of social media and its ability to influence, inspire and connect people in global conversation.”
Those interested in getting involved in the celebration of all things social media can take part in numerous digital activities set to take place.

During the 2017 event, the state hosted the first Social Media Day Twitter chat, with great success. The inaugural chat reached more than 764,000 accounts, totaling more than 6,385,800 impressions.
From marketing products to providing customer support in real-time, social media has forever changed how people and business connect, consume and share content. As the third state in the U.S. to recognize Social Media Day in 2012, Michigan government has long embraced the use of social media to extend traditional channels of constituent engagement.
“Recognized as a top digital state in 2017 for overall government experience, we understand the important role social media plays in creating a more participatory government,” Belanger added. “Our social content plays a key role in connecting citizens with their government and bridging digital experiences across applications and websites.”
