LANSING — The Michigan Office of Financial Management (OFM) within the State Budget Office has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The team was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their work on the fiscal year 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
“Each year, our office strives for excellence for the state of Michigan,” said Mike Moody, Director of the Office of Financial Management. “The fact that GFOA has recognized our office for the 31st consecutive year speaks volumes about the high quality of the work that is produced by our dedicated team of state employees year after year.”
The CAFR, which consists of a set of financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, was assessed by an impartial panel of judges from the multi-national association. The organization grades various criteria including the commitment to full disclosure and the ability to clearly communicate the state’s financial story.
“This is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting,” said Budget Director, John J. Walsh. “I am proud of the accomplishments of our OFM team, and their diligence in accurate and concise reporting for the people of the state of Michigan,”
The Government Finance Officers Association established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting in 1945 to encourage and assist states and provinces to go above and beyond their reporting requirements for the “spirit of transparency.” More information on the program, as well as a list of awarded participants, can be found on their website at www.gfoa.org.
