The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has opened a public comment period and scheduled an online information session related to Revere Dock LLC’s application for an air permit at its Detroit River site.

Revere Dock has filed a fugitive dust plan with EGLE for the handling of bulk materials at 5851 West Jefferson Ave. Revere Dock would need the air permit under its fugitive dust plan before it can obtain approvals from the City of Detroit for its operations. EGLE must ensure Revere Dock’s plan will control and limit emissions of fugitive dust at the site.

The public comment period opens today and runs through Dec. 18. There are three options for commenting:

EGLE has also scheduled an online public information session and hearing for 6 p.m. Dec. 9 where staff will explain the fugitive dust plan application and answer questions. Those without access to the internet can attend the session by phone. Dial 213-787-0529 and use the meeting code 881478#.

A proposed project summary, fact sheet and related documents have been posted to EGLE's website.

Individuals who are interested in receiving printed copies of the documents related to the proposed permits or who need accommodations or other assistance to participate in the hearing should contact Cindy Smith at 517-648-8404 or SmithC17@Michigan.gov.

The fugitive dust plan is separate from an EGLE permit issued earlier this month to Revere Dock for its riverside site restoration plan. In that incident, Revere Dock was fined $60,000 after an aggregate pile onsite and dock collapsed into the Detroit River in November 2019, which resulted in contaminated soil entering the river. Updates on the restoration plan can be found on the Dock Collapse into Detroit River from Detroit Bulk Storage Site website.
