The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) will partner with other state agencies, the Michigan Petroleum Association, Midwest Independent Retailers Association, and the American Petroleum Institute of Michigan to present the 2019 Michigan Petroleum Storage Tank Conference Series. This conference series is designed to bring  together owners and operators of petroleum storage tanks systems, (and other interested persons) with State inspectors and Program Specialists to receive relevant training and to meet one-on-one with staff from:

  • Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) - Weights and Measures Program, and Motor Fuels Quality Program
  • Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) - Fire Services Bureau, Storage Tank Division
  • EGLE - Remediation and Redevelopment Division,  and the Michigan Underground Storage Tank Authority (MUSTA)

This conference provides up to four (4) CEHs/PDHs for Professional Engineers

Corrective Action Basics, Petroleum Volatilization to Indoor Air Pathway

This presentation will be an overview of risk based corrective action principles at petroleum storage tank sites.  Emphasis will be placed on addressing challenges that owners, operators and EGLE staff commonly encounter. 

Michigan's 2018 UST Rules

This session will include discussions on compatibility requirements, who is required to test the integrity of their sumps, annual leak detection equipment checks, overfill and spill protection equipment checks, and new leak detection requirements for previously exempt systems.

Financial Responsibility

Topics will include a brief history of the program, how to apply for coverage under MUSTA, deductibles and financial responsibility mechanisms, what is and what is not covered under a MUSTA Policy, and the renewal process.

Compliance with Motor Fuel Quality Standards

This presentation will provide attendees with tips on inventory management and monitoring of water levels in your fuel storage tanks to ensure your motor fuels maintain compliance with state standards.  DEARBORN ONLY

Responsibilities When Buying or Selling Property with USTs or Contamination

This presentation will provide helpful tips for persons selling, buying, leasing, or foreclosing on property that might have petroleum storage tanks or underground storage tank contamination.

Michigan's Class A/B/C Operator Requirements

A review of the Owner/Operator responsibilities for maintaining documentation and ensuring that the Operator A, B, & C’s meet the minimum requirements.  This session will also review Operator A, B, & C responsibilities, and discuss how the Operator B requirements can change depending on whether the facility conducts monthly or quarterly inspections.

Claims and Invoices

Learn the basics of claims submittals, invoicing, and how to receive maximum reimbursement for completed corrective actions. Topics will include a brief history of the program, how to submit a claim to MUSTA, reasons for claim denials, what is and is not eligible for reimbursement, cost-control measures, the two-party check, and the denial review process.

Inspections, Value of Routine Maintenance

An overall review of the Weights and Measures Program’s authority, responsibilities and enforcement. Stakeholders that operate commercial weighing and measuring devices, utilize registered service agencies, or have interest in motor oil, should attend this presentation.   DEARBORN ONLY
