2021 Great Lakes Areas of Concern Annual Conference

SAVE THE DATES:  SEPTEMBER 29-30, 2021

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), in partnership with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presents the 2021 Areas of Concern (AOC) Conference.  This year's conference will be held September 29-30, 2021, in Muskegon, Michigan, at the Lakeshore Convention Center, pending the assessment of safely meeting in person this summer.

State AOC program managers and staff, AOC Advisory Council Chairs, private sector and academic interests, AOC leaders and other interested parties are invited to reserve these dates to attend the 2021 AOC Conference!

PRE-CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES:  Tues, September 28

Tours of the Muskegon Lake Area of Concern (AOC) (included)

  • Afternoon --  (starting & ending times TBD)  meet at the Heritage Landing Habitat Restoration site and choose one of four AOC tours of various lengths that will be staggered to begin throughout the afternoon:
  • Habitat Tour West
  • Features three shoreline habitat restoration projects, a Great Lakes Legacy Act cleanup, and the historic NOAA GLERL Lake Michigan Field Station.
  • Habitat Tour East
  • Features three hydrologic reconnection and wetland habitat restoration projects and a Great Lakes Legacy Act cleanup.
  • Lakeshore Trail Bicycle Habitat Tours
  • Features two habitat restoration projects along the Lakeshore Trail.
  • Downtown Muskegon Walking Tour
    Explores amenities and attractions in downtown Muskegon.

Pre-Conference Reception at Walker's Restaurant (included in Registration)

5:30-7:30 pm, following the AOC Habitat Tours, join us for an opening reception, including appetizers, in downtown Muskegon at Walker's Restaurant, located inside the Delta by Marriott hotel.


DAY 1 - SEPTEMBER 29 OPTIONAL EVENING ACTIVITY
Muskegon Lake Dinner Gathering (additional cost) ~6:00 pm

Join us for dinner on Muskegon Lake.  Plans are still under development for a group gathering which includes a full dinner and cash bar along the shore of Muskegon Lake in downtown Muskegon.
