Former McLouth Steel Corp. Site - Memorandum of Understanding

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding(PDF) with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA).  The Memorandum of Understanding specifies the plans and expectations of EGLE and U.S. EPA in connection with the approximately 273-acre, former McLouth SteelCorp facility.  EGLE is addressing the northern approximately 76-acre portion of the McLouth Steel Products Corp facility under its federally- authorized state Resource Conservation Recovery Act corrective action program.  U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is addressing the adjacent approximately 197-acre southern portion of the former McLouth Steel Products Corp facility under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act. This Memorandum of Understanding recognizes the need and provides the agencies a process for the coordinating actions at the McLouth Steel Products Corp facility under the state Resource Conservation Recovery Act and the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act programs at the adjacent sites.
