Michigan State University Temporary Emergency License

As of June 21, 2021, Michigan State University (MSU) has been issued a temporary emergency license (Emergency License), issued pursuant to Rule 299.9501(3) of the administrative rules promulgated pursuant to Part 111, Hazardous Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended.

When an imminent and substantial endangerment to human health or the environment exists, EGLE may issue a temporary emergency license for activities that will minimize such endangerment. The Emergency License allows experienced Michigan State Police personnel to transport small containers of reactive chemicals from the Chemistry Building to a designated location for controlled detonation. Treatment will occur on a weekend day during the period the license is effective, (June 21, 2021 - July 10, 2021).
