Proposed TENORM Guidelines
The Radiological Protection Section is updating EQC-1602 following the passage of P.A. 688 of 2018. P.A. 688 codifies in law the concentrations of Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (TENORM) acceptable for disposal in Michigan's Type I and Type II landfills. As a result of its passage, some provisions of EQC-1602 needed to be changed to be consistent with the law.
Included in the changes will be the title, since the law includes limits on the landfill disposal of radium-226, radium-228, and lead-210. The title will change from "Cleanup and Disposal Guidelines for Sites Contaminated with Radium-226" to "Guidelines for Cleanup and Disposal of Sites Contaminated with TENORM" to reflect the inclusion of the additional two radionuclides. Copies of the proposed guidelines are available for public comment may be viewed and downloaded at the following link.
DEADLINE FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS REGARDING PROPOSED GUIDELINES FOR THE CLEANUP AND DISPOSAL OF SITES CONTAMINATED WITH TENORM.
