2014-2015 Campground Regulations Workgroup - Currently Inactive
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Drinking Water and Municipal Assistance Division (DWMAD), together with the campground industry, was proposing to revise the Public Health Code, 1978 PA 368, as amended (Act 368), Part 125, Campgrounds, and the Campground administrative rules (Part 125).
Part 125 of Act 368 contains definitions, construction permit procedures, licensing procedures, and authorization to promulgate administrative rules that govern the operation of campgrounds. The rules contain minimum standards for campground construction, campsites, related facilities, drinking water supply and distribution systems and wastewater collection and disposal systems. Part 125 was last revised November 2004. The current version of the administrative rules went into effect December 2000.
A workgroup of stakeholders was assembled and frequently met in Lansing. The meeting minutes and supporting documentation are posted below.

The workgroup’s goal was to agree on draft language for a Part 125 revision. This included much needed changes to reflect current industry trends and a revised fee schedule in order to retain the resources needed to best serve the campground industry while being protective of public health. A set of recommended revisions to Part 125 was agreed upon by the workgroup in September 2015.
The workgroup was not successful in finding a legislative sponsor to proceed with the recommended revisions to Part 125 and has not started work on revisions to the administrative rules.
