EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.
The Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides all persons (except persons incarcerated in correctional facilities) with access to public records of public bodies. Requests to inspect or receive public records from EGLE must be in writing and describe the requested records with enough detail to enable the department to identify and locate the requested records. Some records are exempt from disclosure under the FOIA or another statute and thus will not be provided. A fee may be charged to process your request. Please note that many records are available that do not require a formal FOIA request.

The Surface Water Assessment Section (SWAS) contributes to the annual fish advisory by coordinating fish collections and contaminant analyses. The data collected by SWAS is used by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to develop Eat Safe Fish Guides that are updated annually. Also, the SWAS Manager serves as chair of Michigan's Fish and Wildlife Contaminant Advisory Committee (FAWCAC). FAWCAC is responsible for coordinating efforts to monitor contaminants in fish and wildlife and issue consumption advisories in Michigan. FAWCAC - Fish and Wildlife Contaminant Advisory Committee
FAWCAC includes representatives from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The four participating departments have the following responsibilities:
EGLE Management of environmental protection programs intended to reduce or eliminate contaminant loads to the environment. Sampling includes fish and wildlife in the environment and caged organisms to measure uptake of contaminants.
MDARD Assuring the safety of commercially sold or raised fish and wildlife. Sampling includes fish and wildlife in commerce or destined for commerce.
MDNR Management of wildlife and commercial and recreational fisheries. Sampling includes fish and wildlife in the environment.
MDHHS Evaluation of fish and wildlife contaminant monitoring data from the human health perspective and preparation of fish and wildlife consumption advisories. Analyses include assessment of human exposure and risk from eating fish and wildlife containing contaminants.
