April 16, 2019

Macroinvertebrates in a tray for viewing at the festival. On Saturday, March 23, the Water Resources Division's Nonpoint Source Program staff tended a booth at the Barry County Science Festival hosted by the Pierce Cedar Creek Institute in Hastings.  Staff had the opportunity to interact with over 300 people to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).  Specifically discussed was the use of macroinvertebrates as an indicator of water quality and the relationship with nonpoint source pollution.  Everyone enjoyed searching through trays containing samples collected from nearby streams to find and identify the macroinvertebrates that were present.
