It's Social Media Day - let's connect!

Today marks the seventh statewide celebration of Michigan Social Media Day. It's a day that celebrates the advancements of technology, digital innovation, and the connectedness that social media provides in its increasing influence on government, business, and education.

It's important for state agencies to meet residents where they are to provide information and tell the story of how staff are working toward a clean and healthy Michigan. As internet access expands globally and social media networks top 3.5 billion users, connecting on social accounts is essential. In the case of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, our social accounts open a window into the work staff do to protect the environment and support public health each day.

EGLE uses social platforms to post restoration photos, grant opportunities, public comment periods, articles, and informative videos, and also live-tweets events and hosts Twitter chats to keep you in-the-know. With nearly 10,000 subscribers across platforms, EGLE's social media presence is bringing news and data directly to many state residents. However, there are plenty of people we have yet to connect with to share our platforms and might benefit from EGLE news. They are listed at
